Swear I Love You annonces debut self-titled album

Swear I Love You annonces debut self-titled album

If rock is the watchword here, it’s an alchemical one : alchemy of the guitars, flying (far) away, lost in space and time, melting over the sustained or relaxed – even dreamy – pace of the drums. The skeleton-bass gives a cohesive substance to the whole. This is a liquid chemistry, after all, made out of fluid streams of light.

Founded in 2019, Swear I love you as a musical project, could be seen as a text where different writings are being superimposed : sounds reminiscent of previous bands (three of its members also played in the mighty Forks and the trippy MK-Ultra), but somehow distant from that past. Rewriting here should be understood as reinvention. Novelty comes hand in hand with a renewed collective enthousiasm channeled through the music composition and performance of their hypnotic and captivating tunes.

Lulled by influences found on the psych rock scene of bands such as Brian Jonestown Massacre and early Black Angels, their sound is expansive, equal parts heavy and ethereal, stained with an alpine kind of psychedelia, inspired by forests, mountains and (magic) mushrooms, flying clouds and a golden transluscent low-angled light glowing through the dark foliage and prairie wildflowers. In this neverending chiaroscuro game of the reassuring and the eerie, the poignant neo-romanticism of Echo and the Bunnymen and the enlightened ghost of Joy Division appear sometimes, haunting in the shady background (Smoke and Mirror, Sound of Seashells).

This is an incestous palimpsest, where love is made with mothers / influences and father, the idol, is killed, in order to find one’s own voice. A drug or a poison ? It all depends on how we go about it.

You’ll love it. We swear, we promise.

SWEAR I LOVE YOU album out February 12th

Swear I love you is releasing its new music video for ‘Sound of Seashells’. A game between the dimension of the dream, the absurd and the oppressive. The group is at the same time customer, cook and waiter.

Leopard Skull announces new music video

Watch the new music video for ‘Ghost’

Harm Pauwels, singer-songwriter multi-instrumentalist based in Gent, Belgium, hidden under the name of Leopard Skull, comes back with a new music video for “Ghost”. Taken from his first album “Welcome Home” released last year on EXAG Records, Leopard Skull asked director Sébastien Petretti to take advantage of these hard times of confinement.
A deserted cove by the sea at sunset. In the manner of a western, two frogmen, dressed in their long suits, harpoons armed and pointing at each other, look at each other enchanted with earthenware. The tension is palpable …
It is in this black and white universe that Harm Pauwels wishes to present ‘Ghost’, a song about solutiousness and paranoia: “Ghost’ is a song about loneliness and paranoia. The psychological theme is something that runs through my complete debut album ‘Welcome Home’. It is an attempt to better understand the people in my immediate environment and in our current society. Ghost in particular is very topical for me. In a way the writing process of this song aroused an imprisoned and almost claustrophobic feeling where after a while you start to wonder what is still reality and what isn’t.” add Leopard Skull.
Directed by Sébastien Petretti, realised during the confinement in Bretagne France, the feeling of this period can be felt in the realization. The latter adds: “Ghost speaks of the loss of a loved one and the feeling of madness that goes with it. These lyrics and the mood of the song were a very inspiring basis for me. The more I went through the script versions, the more weird and creepy it became and the more the band became involved. We were on the same wavelength, they trusted me, perfect working conditions. Having spent a part of my life on the seaside, I often saw these hooded, masked and webbed divers passing by from head to toe . Their quickdraws were frightened. I had the impression that they came from somewhere else. The idea came from there. I wanted to extrapolate this feeling and make these characters a species in their own right, living in a parallel world. It’s almost science fiction. That was the challenge… ”

Ghost is taken from album ‘Welcome Home’ out last year on EXAG Records.

Milk TV announces a debut album on EXAG’

Milk TV announces a debut album on EXAG’

We are psyched to welcome the Brussels based trio Milk TV.

Milk TV is a punk-pop / no wave trio started in Brussels late 2017 by Frenchman

Matthieu Peyraud already involved as a bass player in the local oriental kraut sextet Phoenician

Drive. It’s the continuation of a previous trio based in Montréal that he had to abort

to migrate back to Europe. Now back on the tracks full on as lead singer and bassist he’s

supported by Martin Rault (Phoenician Drive) on the drums and Casper de Geus (O’Grady,

Moar, Brorlab) on guitar.

The power trio feeds on playground nostalgia, cheep TV programs and a good dose of

post-Reagan cynicism to bring some jerky and raucous pieces of rock music that feel like

Devo, Wire, Sonic Youth & Deerhoof ain’t standing too far in the rear mirror. And you’re

driving your old cousin’s shitty Honda Civic, but you wish it were a DeLorean flying under

the milky-way.

More info really soon, stay tuned

Tamar Aphek (Tel Aviv, Israel)

We hope you all went through confined living peacefully and virus-proof as much as possible. At EXAG we were lucky to come across a wonderful yet nonetheless contagious record by Tel-Aviv jazz/rock’n’roll artist Tamar Aphek that recently joined the family.

Today the single ‘Crossbow‘ is coming out, it’s a sharp knife of a rock’n’roll song driven by a steady machine gun evocating bass line and chest-pounding drums. Recorded at Daptone Records in NYC, the song is ironically making sense in the current pandemic context. Indeed Tamar wrote ‘Crossbow’ as a sarcastic song about allowing or maybe encouraging one’s aggressive tendencies towards other human beings, until one has “no where to run” or until “there is no place under the sun”.

Raised to classical music at the piano, Tamar got hooked by jazz and rock’n’roll during her 2-year military service where she would carry her guitar and play it on and on during her night shifts.

Premiere on GouteMesDisques : http://www.goutemesdisques.com/news/article/tamar-aphek-nouvelle-pepite-israelienne-du-rock-indie/

“Tamar Aphek, nouvelle pépite israélienne du rock indie”
“on peut vous garantir que tant son songwriting que la tension latente et permanente qui anime ses compositions sont autant de forces qui nous font dire qu’il faudra compter sur ces Israéliens en 2020.” – Goûte Mes Disques

Ever since she’s been very active in the Isreali indie scene in bands such as ED, Carusella and Shoshana. Her first solo EP ‘Collision’ came out in 2014 and had her tour Europe and the US several times and lately she’s been working on her first LP that she recorded in New York at Daptone Records under the supervision of Daniel Schlett (War on drugs, DIIV).

Tamar’s music is infused with a wide spectrum of rhythms, dynamics, melodies and tones that might be attributed to her four years stay in Egypt through childhood which changed her whole worldview. Thus, composing and writing lyrics to her songs unveils a combination of personal philosophical vision together with day-to-day life experience.

We got hooked pretty much straight away, and we wish you the same.

“A live album for the best live band in the Kingdom” – Goûtes Mes Disques

While definitely a child of noise rock, La Jungle takes bits-and-bobs from the whole music spectrum and loop them live with the aim to create compulsive and repetitive sequences. Hypnotic, spontaneous and willingly throbbing, sometimes bordering on an endless groove, their music may even include brief oriental doom pulses or metal diversions bang in the middle of some kraut rock epic trip.

Welcome Orchids !

We’re very excited to add a Montreal band to the EXAG’ family, the sextet perfectly combines shoegaze distortions with psychedelic synths in strong and melodic songwriting reminiscing of the 90’s Britpop. Led by Alex Cyprine (ex Qúetzal Snåkes), Orchids just recorded 2 very nice tracks with strong choruses that could only end up on a 7″ single vinyl.
Stay tuned for further announcements, cheers!
